Chapter Nine: Dom-estic Beginnings:
Part Two: Auditions
In the acting business there are many ways for an actor or actress to try and further their understanding of their character. One of these techniques is called “method acting.” This means the actor attempts to get inside their character’s mind by doing things that the character might normally do, such as get the same job or pick up some of their mannerisms (like smoking). Normally one does this before auditioning. However, some actors take this “method acting” a step further; such as one Elijah Wood.

Between his deft fingers the slippery silk languidly came undone as Elijah untied the secure knot of Sean’s pinstriped tie. Taking his time to commit to his mind every caress of the fine fabric, Elijah’s fingers lingered about the stiff collar of Sean’s shirt. After they had hastily run up the stairs and checked to make sure Ally was asleep the young man had managed to straddle Sean’s hips, turning him completely submissive on his own bed. Resting his hands upon Elijah’s burning thighs, Sean’s eyes focused as fingers pulled the silk through the path beneath down turned cotton. Elijah had pressed the same hand against a thick stack of paper lying upon Sean’s chest between them as he glanced down to read it. With a swift movement he threw the tie behind his back, not caring in the slightest where it landed.
“You see, ohh-” Elijah paused mid-gasp looking down at Sean’s watchful eyes. “It says, William gasps as Patrick nips at the hollow of his throat,” he read the stage direction to Sean as if it were an instruction to a disobedient student. Sean looked up at him and slowly cocked an eyebrow, fighting off a knowing smile as he tried to keep a straight face. “Are you going to help me with this audition or not, Sean Patrick As-?” Catching Elijah off guard, Sean leaned up, shifting between the younger man’s thighs, and did in fact nip and even lap at the skin at the hollow of Elijah’s throat. Eliciting an authentic moan, Sean leaned back against the pillows with his fingers now snagged through and pulling at the belt loops of Elijah’s dress pants.
“I’ll admit this to you Patrick,” Elijah spoke again as William once he had regained his composure. “The first time I saw you…” For every word he spoke, one of Sean’s collar-shirt buttons would come unfastened. Enjoying himself more than he would have if this had been a real audition, Elijah let his fingers trail heedlessly across the warm expanse of exposed skin and golden hairs, recently concealed by white cotton. Quickly hitting the edge of the paper on Sean’s chest, Elijah moved the script to the nearby pillow. “There was an instant connection, but…” Reaching the waistband of Sean’s pants, Elijah tugged lightly and freed the trapped shirt tails as he finished unbuttoning the over starched shirt. His lips grazed lightly against the shell of Sean’s ear as he dropped his voice to a husky whisper. “It was mainly lust.” The smooth texture of the palms of Elijah’s hands circled slowly up Sean’s chest, finally resting against the soft line of the older man’s collar bone, still half masked by his shirt.
“Don’t worry,” Sean practically squeaked the next line as Elijah hitched up his position on his hips, shifting closer to match the searing heat together perfectly and grinding downwards. “It was the same way for me.” Once Elijah had bent over to listen to Sean’s whisper, the older man’s hands had slipped up to the waistband of Elijah’s pants. His fingers traced the slight curvature of Elijah’s back, pulling up the cotton fabric as he did so. A warm hand slipped up his neck and was placed against Sean’s face, lightly cupping his jaw with delicate fingertips. It was a tentative touch that seemed somewhat out of place.
“But I see now, it is far more than that…” Elijah trailed off as instructed by Sean’s script while leaning close to Sean’s face and pressing a near ghost of a kiss to his lips. Nudging Sean’s cheek with the angled tip of his nose, Elijah parted his lips and stole the very breath from Sean’s lungs.
“So much more,” Sean sighed breathlessly, hoping somewhere in the recesses of his mind that it actually was Patrick’s line, or something close to it. Tugging at the offending material of Elijah’s shirt, Sean finally managed to pull it off and over the younger man’s head, tossing it to the side. Recently, he’d discovered his hands had a habit of resting on the small of Elijah’s back protectively but now they found themselves pressed tight against the nape of his neck, slipping against a thin sheen of sweat. Bringing his lips close to Elijah’s once more, Sean let Elijah’s tongue glide out from between his own lips and outline the slopping curve of Sean’s lower lip. Once his lips were wet, Sean tilted his face up and dragged the damp flesh across Elijah’s curved upper lip; feeling the saliva between them working to let the touch linger on longer than it should have. Slowly Sean pulled away, his hands splayed against the sides of Elijah’s face.
“Why?” Sean asked, for Patrick’s sake and his very own. With the pad of his thumb he dragged it across the soft, pink-flushed, flesh of Elijah’s pouting lower lip. There was nothing Sean’s mind could compare the softness to, save the soft warmth of Elijah’s kiss with those lips. The darkened gaze of glistening blue locked with his own before they flickered over to the crumpled script. He watched Elijah read over the line, deciding it also answered and suited his own purposes as the question had suited both Sean and Patrick’s.
“You cared when others turned their back.” Elijah’s eyes closed to half mast as his eyebrows knit together; the simple expression tearing at Sean’s heart. He knew that either Wood was a great actor or else there was some truth behind his words; or simply both.
Never wanting to move his hands from framing Elijah’s face, Sean tilted the young man’s jaw with the slightest pressure and kissed him deeply with reassurance. As his tongue moved against Elijah’s in slow, almost lethargic strokes, fingers worked at the leather belt threaded through the loops of his dress pants. A tentative tug and Sean’s hips automatically shifted off the bed, pressing against Elijah’s own damp pants front, as the fabric was pushed down his legs and kicked off the end of the bed.
“Just remember, Elijah,” Sean began, taking on a true director’s voice; though it was threaded through with an unnamable urgency. “This man you have in your arms,” He paused. Finally moving his hands from Elijah’s face, Sean set to work undoing Elijah’s own belt. “This love you are supposed to be feeling right now as William,” Lips grazing clumsily against Elijah’s cheek, Sean slid the material from off his slim hips. “Is so fragile, you don’t know how long it might last.” A muffled sob, or what Sean would later guess to have been a sob, was Elijah’s only response.
The sudden parallels that were forming in Elijah’s mind as he pressed his face against the crook of Sean’s neck were overpowering. For the umpteenth time that day Elijah couldn’t help reflect back upon his feelings about their situation to be fragile just as he had that morning while sitting in the freezing rain. Again it seemed something was forcing him to be reminded that someone as wonderful as Sean was still not entirely his to have alone, at least in a romantic sense. He didn’t know how long he would be permitted to have this simple love.
“You’ve been waiting so long for something to happen…and now it has and all you can think about is that you’re not sure when or how it will end…even though it’s only just begun.” Elijah’s mind spun as his imagination played a vision of Christine bursting in through the door. Sean’s words were beginning to wrap around his entire being. Urgency, matching the same Elijah heard in Sean’s voice, flooded through his blood as his hips jerked roughly against Sean’s.
“But I do know…” Elijah sobbed, speaking as himself, as he pulled at the fabric of Sean’s shirt, his hips now finding a rhythm being matched by Sean’s own thrusts. His fingertips slipped into the folds of button holes as he shut his eyes tightly.
“Yes, yes you do,” Sean said sadly through clenched teeth, biting back a moan. Cradling the back of Elijah’s head and the nape of his neck with his hands, Sean continued. “You know that after he falls asleep you’ll be leaving.” Silently Elijah nodded into the crook of Sean’s shoulder as his slow thrusts increased in speed, as if his own physical presences could keep his literary counterpart from leaving Sean’s. “You know that your lust for revenge is greater than your love for him,” A strange bubble of anger flared deep in the pit of Elijah’s stomach as he momentarily forgot Sean was referring to him as if he were speaking directly to Will. “And you hate yourself for it, but that’s how you were raised and it’s too late to change…” In the back of his mind he knew Sean’s words were only to withdraw the emotions he desired to depict in this scene. “You know you’ll die tonight…but the chance to kill another in the name of vengeance spurs you on more so than love ever will.” He knew by the end of the scene Will was to be in tears knowing everything Sean was saying to be the truth.
“Yes…” Elijah managed to cry out in a strangled voice as the burning pricks of tears waiting to fall plagued his tightly shut eyes. Too many emotions flooding through his system, his hips grinding savagely downward against Sean’s as he had bucked up. A gasp cut through to Elijah as Sean’s head snapped back and his eyes closed. Sean’s hips stiffened against Elijah’s as he came before falling back against the bed. His gentle voice washed over his body as Sean’s lips parted again.
“You know this night is all you’ll have,” Sean whispered out of breath as Elijah continued to thrust against him recklessly. “And you love it and hate it…” His hands ripped away from Sean’s shirt as, knuckles quickly turning white, he gripped the headboard. “But y-y-you do love him…”
“I-I do…I do…I do…” Elijah murmured, growing louder with every thrust. Sean watched his Elijah move above him, eyes screwed shut, almost screaming (but quiet enough not to be heard down the hall) as he slipped into the gray area between himself and William. “I do!” He panted one last time as his eyes flashed open, locking instantly with Sean’s as he came, tears finally spilling over the brink, falling down his cheeks and hitting Sean’s lips. Elijah fell limp against Sean’s body, his lips though pressed light against Sean’s. He could taste the salty flavor from his tears upon Sean’s lips.
“I think I’ve found my William…through and through.” Sean finally whispered against Elijah’s lips as the younger man blotted his tears on Sean’s shirt and managed a laugh. His hands still lay protectively against the back of Elijah’s head as he bent to press a gentle kiss to his brow.
“I do…” A sleepy whisper murmured against Sean’s collar as Elijah spoke in no way, shape or form of William’s love for Patrick.

“…there is one thing that will tear it apart at the very seams and her name is Victoria Corwin.”
‘Flat. No feeling whatsoever; need chills…’ Sean thought as he dragged the red felt tip pen across yet another actor’s name. So many young actors had turned up for auditions almost a week after Sean and Elijah had gotten the movie deal, yet not one they had seen so far seemed to fit the coveted lead role of Corbin. All were either to timid too be believable as a “young syndicate associate” or they were too rough around the edges to play a romantic role. Turning to his left he glanced at Elijah; the younger man subtly shook his head. Then looking to his right Christine mirrored Elijah’s reaction.
“Thank you for your time, Mr. Gibbons.” Sean let the young man down nicely as he flipped to the next page of possible ‘Corbin’s.’ The young man stalked off the makeshift set with a dejected look.
Beneath the skirted folding table Sean distinctly felt a bare foot slip under the cuff of his pants and move up against his shin and back around to caress his calf. It was now around 2:30 in the afternoon and they had been sitting in the same chairs since nine o’clock in the morning. Sean knew Elijah was beginning to get antsy, especially being in such close proximity to Christine and Sean at the same time.
“Do you think we should break for a few minutes?” Sean suggested standing up abruptly as Elijah’s foot slipped back out from under his pant leg and hit the smooth floor quietly. Both Elijah and Christine nodded in agreement; thought Elijah wore a mischievous smile.
“I think I’ll be going to the bathroom.” Elijah announced and got up barefoot and walked towards the bathroom. He passed by a young man with dark curled hair waiting in line to audition. In his arms he was clutching the slender waist of, what Elijah presumed to be, his girlfriend. The girl had short purple dyed hair and was leaning against him muttering encouragement and endearments into his ear.
‘Fucking lucky people get to be open about their relationships…’ Behind him Elijah heard Sean’s distinct voice commenting about how he, Elijah, had a good idea and that he was also going to use the bathroom.
“I can’t do this, Sean.” Elijah whispered fiercely as soon as Sean had stepped into the bathroom. Leaning against the door he had just walked through, Sean reached out towards Elijah with open arms. “She’s right there and you’re sitting next to me…” Elijah trialed off as he moved closer and laced his arms around Sean’s neck, pressing a short kiss to Sean’s still parted lips, “So close, and you’re just smelling like you do,” Ducking down he sighed and rested his head on Sean’s shoulder as warm arms slowly encircled his waist. “And looking like you do and speaking like you do and…” he stopped and looked Sean in the eye. “God damn it, just being you.” With that Elijah pulled away and slumped against the wall until he sat on the tilted floor with his legs drawn up to his chest.
“Lij,” Sean crooned, kneeling down to be level with Elijah. “Hey, Elijah come on, it’s almost over.” The words did little to comfort Elijah; he knew that after the auditions Sean would have to go back to his house with Christine while he had to go back to his apartment and an unjustly empty bed. Though, this lonely thought didn’t keep him from leaning into Sean’s warm touch as the older man tilted his face up to look him in eye.
“How will this ever work?” Elijah asked for the first time; finally voicing the predominant concern that had been hanging over his head since Sean had picked Christine up at the airport a few days ago. With eyebrows drawn close together, Elijah stared back into Sean’s clouded eyes looking for any silent offerings within their depths.
“I don’t know…it’s a mystery.” Sean offered as his lips pressed softly against Elijah’s as the young man smiled. Against his face the blunt fingertips smoothed the shaved skin of his cheek before grazing lightly against the line of his jaw.
“I thought it was a romance,” Elijah retorted, placing his hands on Sean’s shoulders as he stood back up; using the wall to lean against. As Elijah smoothed back the hairs covering Sean’s forehead with a pale hand, Sean smiled hearing Elijah’s soft voice. ‘Simply beautiful…,’ Elijah thought as his hand came back around to rest just behind Sean’s ear, his thumb stroking the length of its shell.
“Well, that too.” With a last lingering kiss and a heartening smile, Sean pulled away from Elijah’s warmth and slipped back out of the bathroom. Moving towards the short row of porcelain sinks, Elijah turned on the cold water faucet and, with a cupped hand, splashed his face with what water he could. After taking a deep breath and drying his face he calmly walked out of the bathroom and passed back by the couple still whispering to each other. He found Sean standing and talking to Chris. Her eyes shifted quickly to Elijah just before her husband placed a well-practiced kiss to her cheek and mumbled a stilted good-bye before turning back around and sitting.
“Where’s Christine going?” Elijah asked once he was back sitting next to Sean and watching as Chris slipped out the audition room’s back exit.
“She has to go pick up Ally.” Sean whispered back as the young man Elijah had noticed before walked onto the set. The man had an air about him that suggested arrogance but, as Elijah had noticed before when the young man was with his girlfriend, also seemed able to humble himself for the sake of love. This combination was exactly what Sean was looking for in the actor to portray Corbin. Pulling a hand through his dark gelled, slightly curled hair he began reading.
“They say the Red Dragon Syndicate is immortal and nothing can tear it apart,” he paused looking up at both Sean and Elijah. His words were tainted wonderfully with a slight accent that reminded Elijah of Dom’s when he first had met him. Within his eyes a deep pain could be seen as he spoke the next words; though as he did so his eyes flickered back to the young woman waiting off stage. “But let me tell you something Julia, there is one thing that will tear it apart at the very seams and her name is Victoria Corwin.”
The hairs on the back of Elijah’s neck stood up hearing Sean’s words spoke with such a conviction he had never heard before. Looking over to Sean, Elijah lifted an eyebrow as a smile spread across his lips finding Sean’s lips parted and a simple look of wonder crinkling the laugh lines around his eyes. Seeing that unadulterated expression just once upon Sean’s face made up for the inevitable torture Elijah had endured ever since Christine had gotten back into town. The fact Elijah was the only one who did see it also sent a crashing wave of warmth through his body.
“Sean, he’s perfect.” Leaning close to Sean’s ear Elijah whispered as his hand slipped in Sean’s and squeezed once. As he drew Sean out of his revere the older man met Elijah’s gaze and nodded in agreement. Turning back to the young man standing before them with baited breath Sean finally spoke.
“What was your name again?” They both looked down and scanned the page full of names as they listened for a reply.
“Umm, Bloom, Orlando Bloom, Mr. Astin.”
